Who is Play On Side

PlayOnside is a grassroots organization in Mae Sot, Thailand, using football to promote gender equality, social inclusion, and empowerment especially for displaced Burmese migrant children. Their mission is to provide access to education and opportunities through play, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, or socio-economic status.

Our Early Collaboration

When PlayOnside was still getting established, we partnered with them to support their growth. As their communication manager team, we produced promotional videos, helping share their story and expand their reach.

Further Collaboration: Green Island Community Project

Green Island is a community-led initiative created to support children living at the garbage dump site in Mae Sot. PlayOnside, together with Estudio Cavernas (a social architecture and construction non-profit), built a community centre, football field, and playground for the children.

Lush Life Films contributed by producing weekly movie screenings for the kids, aligned with topics they had been learning during the week. These screenings gave the children a chance to reflect, explore, and experience stories beyond their daily surroundings.

Summer Camp at Green Island

During the summer holidays, PlayOnside organized a summer camp at Green Island for children aged 5 to 15. Lush Life Films ran filmmaking and drama classes, designed to be playful and engaging.

The first class focused on mimic and theatre exercises, helping the children get comfortable in front of the camera while we recorded shots to make trailers. The second class was a gymkhana adventure where a student filmed the action while the other kids searched for clues to find the “treasure.”

Using iMovie, the kids created funny and dynamic movie trailers, combining drama exercises and filmmaking in a hands-on, entertaining way.
